Over the weekend, a fatal collision occurred near the small community of Milestone, Saskatchewan, tragically ending the lives of two men. The unfortunate incident transpired on Highway 39, in proximity to the unincorporated community of Corinne.
Swift Response from Emergency Services
Immediately after the incident, which occurred at approximately noon on January 27th, local authorities were alerted. Emergency services, including Milestone Royal Canadian Mounted police (RCMP), local fire department personnel, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), were promptly dispatched to the accident scene.
The professionals arrived quickly and immediately engaged in their duties, but despite their swift and coordinated efforts, they were unable to save the lives of the two drivers involved in the crash. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Victims Identified and Families Notified
The victims were identified as a 76-year-old man from Midale, Sask., and a 50-year-old man from Estevan. Both families have been informed of the tragic incident. The man from Midale was known to be a loving family man, deeply embedded within his community, while the Estevan resident was a devoted father and husband, with a passion for the outdoors.
The collision also resulted in serious injuries for a female passenger who was subsequently transported to a hospital. Her current state of health has been described as severe, but details about her identity and condition remain confidential.
Ongoing Investigation by RCMP
Milestone RCMP, with the assistance of a collision reconstruction expert, is conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident. They aim to determine the precise circumstances leading to the accident, and any measures that could be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Corinne, where the incident took place, is a small, peaceful community located approximately 45 kilometres south of Regina. This tragic event has undoubtedly sent shock waves through the tight-knit community, reminding everyone of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of road safety.
