Four Dead in Apparent Granada Hills Murder-Suicide: Elderly Man Suspected as Shooter

In a heartbreaking event that unfolded on Saturday night, four individuals were found fatally shot in a home in Granada Hills. The Los Angeles police Department (LAPD) led the initial investigations, and it is suspected that an elderly man in his 80s might be the shooter.

Police Respond to shooting Reports

At approximately 6:50 p.m., police officers rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire at a residence located in the 11600 block of Lerdo Avenue. Despite their prompt response, the officers received no answer when they knocked on the front door of the property. They were compelled to force entry and upon doing so, they encountered a horrifying scene: four lifeless bodies and a surviving witness.

Victims and Suspected Perpetrator Identified

The victims, all family members, included two individuals in their late 40s – a male and a female – and an elderly woman in her 80s. The fourth body, believed to be the suspect, was discovered in a separate part of the house with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The witness, an adult whose relationship to the family remains unconfirmed, guided the police to the victims’ bodies.

Authorities Investigating Possible Murder-Suicide

While the specific circumstances leading up to the deaths are currently unclear, investigators are leaning towards a murder-suicide theory. LAPD Captain Kelly Muniz expressed her shock at the severity of the incident, remarking, “It’s hard to imagine a more terrifying and horrific scene. The only solace we can take from this tragedy is that at least one witness has survived.”
