Unprecedented Violence Shakes Joliet Community
Multiple fatalities from shootings were reported in separate residences in Joliet, Illinois, leading to a surge in local police activity on Monday afternoon. The Joliet Police Department initiated a homicide investigation following the discovery of several individuals deceased in two homes located in the 2200 block of West Acres Road, in the vicinity of Madison Street.
Both houses, situated directly across from one another, became the focal point of a comprehensive police investigation. The crime scene is nestled just a few blocks away from the bustling intersection of Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue. Notably, the location is within close proximity to both Ascension St. Joseph Hospital and Joliet West High School, adding to the community’s concern.
Manhunt for Suspect
Authorities have identified Romeo Nance as a person of interest in the case. Nance is believed to be driving a red Toyota Camry with the Illinois license plate Q730412. His previous arrest records reveal that he had declared an address on Acres Road as his residence when arrested for aggravated discharge of a weapon in a case involving a woman. Court records show that Nance, who was released on bond in relation to the 2023 shooting case, is still awaiting trial.
The violent incidents have left the local community in a state of shock and worry. Many residents expressed their anxiety over the seemingly random nature of the crimes. Laura Bane, a local resident, expressed her fears about the safety of her family and the community, stating, “It’s frightening that this is so close to home. I literally live like probably four houses down, and I have a young daughter, and it’s crazy.”
In an alarming development, a red Toyota Camry, identical to the one associated with Nance, was linked to two separate shootings on Sunday, one of which resulted in a fatality. The Will County Sheriff’s office responded to a call at the Pheasant Run Apartments in unincorporated Joliet Township, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Toyosi I. Bakare, originally from Nigeria, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Call for Vigilance
In the light of these events, police have warned the public that Nance should be considered armed and dangerous. They urge anyone who encounters him to contact the police immediately, reinforcing the importance of community vigilance in ensuring public safety..
